‘MATCH OF THE DAY’ – Querrey v Raonic
Posted on June 28, 2012 by Sam Foster
22 year-old Milos Raonic is making some waves on the ATP tour and expect the noisy ripples to continue about this big serving Canadian as the tournament continues. Raonic’s second round opponent has much more experience in the locker but much less talent.
American Sam Querrey was looking like he was going to be making regular appearances at the second week of Grand Slams, but has failed to build on the good form he showed a few years ago. The fact that the much-younger Raonic is now ranked 44 places higher at 22 in the world shows the different trajectories of these two players, especially considering that Raonic was lying outside of the top-100 less than a year ago.
The selection here is for a straight sets Raonic victory at around 5/4. Many have compared Raonic to Wimbledon royalty Pete Sampras due to his grass suited game and his ability to see matches out, something that makes him a perfect candidate for a straight sets selection.
